What this assessment asks

  1. Do you regularly use vibrating power tools or handheld machinery (grinders, breakers, drills, sanders, chainsaws)?
  2. On days you use them, how long in total are the tools actually vibrating in your hands?
  3. Do your tools vibrate heavily, feel poorly maintained, or make your hands go numb while using them?
  4. Do one or more fingertips go white (blanch), especially in the cold or wet?
  5. After going white, do your fingers turn red or blue and become painful as they warm up?
  6. Do cold conditions clearly trigger these finger colour changes?
  7. Do you get tingling or 'pins and needles' in your fingers or hands?
  8. Do your fingers or hands go numb, or feel less sensitive to touch?
  9. Do you struggle with fine tasks or grip (buttons, small objects, holding tools)?
Please note: This is a Tier-1 style screening for Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS), not a diagnosis. Symptoms can have other causes. If your fingers blanch, go numb, or you have grip problems, arrange a proper health-surveillance assessment with an occupational health professional.
